Expected Behavior of Dance Students
Any teacher in any form of child or adult classes needs their students to use good manners. Teachers want every student to listen and not disrupt the class, and they will hopefully have these skills before they start kindergarten.
In order to make adequate progress in ballet or any other dance classes, the student must be able to quickly understand because repetition of the right movements is what makes the dancer have good technique. The basic ability is good technique and then other components such a style and talent will fall into place.
Some components that just naturally happen in training of the performing arts can create a negative attitude in many students. It is natural for some teachers to favor the more talented and gifted students even though they may not be hard workers. Other students sometimes resent this favoritism of others. However, they should maintain a professional attitude and keep working very hard. It would be a good idea to ask the ballet teacher from time to time what they should focus on improving. It is possible to demand attention in a polite way. If this is a real problem in the ballet studio another dance teacher might be preferable.
Another natural issue is always an issue because everyone wants to have the lead role. They desire it whether they are ready or not. However, it is true that some teachers will give special consideration to students whose family supports the dance school, or who are well off. This is sometimes very obvious when this happens.
No matter how a student gets cast into a part, they should practice and dance like they are the star because they should make the role come alive. They do not need to seek extra attention by fake smiles or exaggeration of any type.
Students should not let themselves be distracted by grief, moping, or envy of others. If they need a shoulder to cry on, it must be away from the studio. In the studio, they should act in such a way that they can have compete pride in their actions.
It is important for students to come to every class and every rehearsal prepared. They should only socialize minimally and not join in the complaining of other unhappy member of the cast.
It is helpful to rent ballets of different companies if the studio is performing classical choreography so that they can watch professional dancers perform the parts they are rehearsing. Different dancers have different styles and interpretation. There is always something that can be learned to improve your presentation.
Students should always have a professional attitude. They should get advice away from the studio from family and from other teachers. If it is necessary to relieve disappointment it should be done somewhere that is safe, but in the studio give all of your attention to your work. It is fine for students to be helpful to others as long as it does not take away from their own work.
